If you’re looking to submit a claim to your insurance provider, you may notice that some forms request an NPI (National Provider Identifier). This can understandably raise the question:
What Is an NPI?
An NPI is a unique identification number assigned to licensed healthcare providers, such as doctors, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and medical practices. It is used within the healthcare system to identify providers when processing insurance claims.
Why We Don't Have an NPI
We are not a medical practice and do not operate as a doctor’s office.
We are an eyewear retailer that fills prescriptions written by licensed eye care professionals—but we do not provide medical services or eye exams. Because of this, we are not eligible for an NPI number and are not required to have one.
What You Can Use Instead
For insurance claims, customers typically provide:
The prescribing doctor’s NPI number (found on your prescription or available from your eye care provider)
Your itemized receipt from us, which includes all necessary product and payment details
Our tax ID/registration number, which you can get from our customer service team
This information is usually sufficient for reimbursement through vision insurance or health spending accounts.
